Match Analysis

Liverpool lead at half time in 77% of their home Premier League matches — one of the highest first-half dominance rates in the division. Southampton have conceded the opening goal before half time in 10 of their last 13 away league games and have scored first in just 2 of those. Liverpool's high press is most damaging in the opening 45 minutes, making HT home win the clearest pick in this fixture.

Match Analysis

The Chelsea vs Tottenham London derby is consistently tight in the first half — 7 of the last 10 H2H meetings at Stamford Bridge have been level at the break. Both teams are slow starters: Chelsea score before HT in only 48% of home games this season, and Tottenham concede before HT in just 44% of away fixtures. A half-time draw is the most historically consistent outcome in this fixture.

Match Analysis

Arsenal lead at half time in 64% of their home league games. Brentford tend to concede early in away fixtures — they have trailed at the break in 6 of their last 10 road Premier League matches. Arsenal's high defensive line and aggressive press in the opening 20 minutes frequently opens up space that their forwards exploit before the interval.

Match Analysis

Real Madrid lead at the break in 79% of their home La Liga fixtures. Getafe are one of Spain's most defensively cautious sides but lack the firepower to threaten Madrid's backline — they have failed to score before half time in 8 of their last 10 away La Liga games. The H2H at the Bernabéu shows Madrid leading at HT in 9 of the last 11 meetings.

Match Analysis

Osasuna vs Rayo Vallecano is a clash of two evenly matched mid-table La Liga sides — 6 of their last 9 H2H meetings have been level at half time. Both sides score their highest proportion of league goals in the second half, meaning the first 45 minutes tends to be a disciplined, probing affair. A half-time draw is strongly supported by the H2H pattern at medium confidence.

Match Analysis

Bayern Munich lead at half time in 78% of their home Bundesliga games — the highest first-half dominance rate of any side in Europe's top five leagues. Mainz have conceded before the break in 9 of their last 12 away Bundesliga fixtures and have not taken a half-time lead in a single away game in 2026. Bayern's relentless first-half pressing makes this our banker of the day.

Match Analysis

Bayer Leverkusen lead at half time in 5 of their last 7 Bundesliga away fixtures — a strong first-half away press is central to their gameplan under Xabi Alonso. Wolfsburg trail at half time in 44% of their home Bundesliga games this season and have conceded the first goal inside the opening 30 minutes in 6 of their last 9 home matches. Leverkusen's away HT lead rate makes 2 (HT) a viable medium-confidence pick.

Match Analysis

Arsenal have led at half time in 4 of their last 5 UCL home fixtures. Shakhtar Donetsk, operating with a depleted squad in European competition, have conceded before the break in all of their last 4 away UCL games. The quality gap between these sides is most evident in the opening 45 minutes when Arsenal's press is at its most intense — 1 (HT) is the clear pick.

Match Analysis

Atletico Madrid are renowned for slow UCL home starts — their Metropolitano fixtures are level at half time in approximately 50% of European home games. Simeone's side prefer to build their advantage in the second half when opponents tire. PSV are disciplined and hard to break down in the opening period. A half-time draw is the most historically consistent outcome for Atletico's UCL home games.

About Half Time Predictions

Half Time Predictions — How the Market Works

Half Time predictions — also referred to as the HT result market — focus exclusively on the score at the 45-minute break. Instead of predicting the full-time outcome, you predict which team will be winning, or whether the match will be level, at half time. The three outcomes are 1 (home team leading), X (level), and 2 (away team leading). It is one of football's most data-rich markets — first-half performance patterns are highly consistent for well-established clubs, making HT result predictions a rewarding area for statistical analysis.

Half Time vs HT/FT — Understanding the Difference

The Half Time result market and the Half Time / Full Time market are closely related but distinct. A pure HT result prediction covers only the 45-minute score — it wins or loses the moment the referee blows for half time. An HT/FT prediction covers both the half-time result and the full-time result as a combined bet — for example, 1/1 (home leads at HT and wins FT) or X/2 (level at HT, away win FT). HT/FT offers higher odds because two results must be correct simultaneously. The pure HT market is the simpler, higher-probability version — ideal for accumulators where you want meaningful odds without the full complexity of HT/FT.

Why First-Half Data Tells a Different Story Than Full-Time Form

Full-time results are a product of 90 minutes of football. Half-time results are driven by the specific characteristics of the first 45 minutes — how aggressively each team presses from the off, where goals are typically scored in each team's matches, and how the opposition reacts to early pressure. High-pressing sides like Bayern Munich, Liverpool, Arsenal, and Manchester City score a disproportionate number of their goals in the opening 30 minutes, which makes their first-half lead rates at home significantly higher than their general home win rates. A team with a 70% full-time home win rate may have an 80% first-half home lead rate — a meaningful and exploitable difference that pure 1X2 analysis misses entirely.

Conversely, tactically cautious managers — particularly in European competition — often instruct their teams to stay compact for the first 45 minutes and seek opportunities in the second half. This makes the half-time draw (X) far more frequent in their fixtures than general form suggests, creating value in HT draw predictions for those specific clubs and contexts.

The Statistics That Drive Our HT Picks

For home win (1) HT selections we look at three inputs: the home team's first-half lead rate at home, the away team's rate of conceding before half time on the road, and the H2H first-half result record for the specific pairing. When the home team leads at half time in 70%+ of relevant home games and the away team trails at the break in 60%+ of road fixtures, we assign a High Confidence rating. Medium Confidence requires two of three indicators to be supportive.

For half-time draw (X) selections the key signal is the H2H pattern — some specific fixture pairings consistently produce level half-time scores regardless of the teams' general first-half tendencies. Evenly matched local derbies and clashes between cautious managers produce the highest H2H half-time draw rates. We publish X (HT) picks only when the H2H record shows 60%+ half-time draws for that specific pairing, combined with at least one team scoring 55%+ of their goals in the second half.

For away win (2) HT selections — the rarest and highest-odds of the three — we require the away team to have a strong first-half away lead rate (60%+) and the home team to show a clear pattern of conceding before the break in home games. Bayer Leverkusen's consistent away first-half pressing under Xabi Alonso is the clearest current example of a side generating reliable 2 (HT) selection data.

Half Time Predictions in Accumulators

The HT result market is most powerful as an accumulator building block. A 4-fold accumulator combining four home win (1) HT selections for dominant home clubs — each carrying a 75–80% individual probability — produces a combined probability of approximately 32–41% while returning odds of 4/1 to 8/1. This is one of the most mathematically favourable accumulator structures in football betting, because the individual leg probability is so much higher than a comparable 1X2 full-time accumulator. Our daily accumulator page includes HT home win legs on days where multiple dominant home sides are in action across the major European leagues.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is the difference between HT predictions and HT/FT?

HT predictions cover only the half-time result — who leads or whether it is level at the break. HT/FT is a combined market requiring you to correctly predict both the half-time result and the full-time result simultaneously. HT/FT offers higher odds; HT result offers higher individual probability and is better suited to accumulators.

Does injury time in the first half count for HT bets?

Yes — the half-time result is settled at the actual half-time whistle, which includes any first-half injury time added by the referee. A goal scored in the 47th minute of a match where 2 minutes of injury time were added counts toward the half-time result.

How often is a match level at half time?

Approximately 28–34% of top-flight European fixtures are level at half time. This rises to around 40–50% in tactically cautious European fixtures — particularly UCL knockout games involving defensive-minded managers. Local derbies also tend to produce above-average half-time draw rates.

Can I combine HT predictions with other markets?

Yes — HT result selections combine with other markets in most bookmakers' bet builders and same-game multiples. Pairing a HT home win selection with an Over 2.5 Goals pick or a BTTS selection in a same-game double can produce attractive combined odds while the individual legs remain statistically sound.

Are these Half Time predictions free?

Yes — all predictions on this page are completely free. No account required, no paywall. The full statistical reasoning behind every pick is visible immediately to all visitors.

How accurate are your Half Time tips?

Our season-wide accuracy across all HT picks sits at 67%, tracked on our public Results page. Given that the HT market has three possible outcomes, 67% accuracy significantly outperforms a random baseline of 33%. All outcomes — correct and incorrect — are logged openly.
